This TWO day interactive workshop is designed to assist teachers in understanding how to make reading instruction explicit enough to meet the needs of students with persistent reading difficulties. Participants will examine the need to have clarity about what is most important for students to know, understand and be able to do. They will learn to employ specific instructional design principles and teacher delivery methods, in the five areas of reading instruction, to meet the reading needs of their students; and will identify evidence of the instructional design principles and teacher delivery methods in various lessons. In addition, participants will be able to determine whether a lesson is intensive or explicit enough for their struggling readers, and how to increase the “explicitness” and intensity of a reading lesson
