Clinical Educator Training (CET) is a state requirement for all educators who serve as a mentor. Mentors are developed to serve the following: 1) teacher candidates assigned to a supervised field experience or internship 2) beginning teachers, and/or 3) a developing professional.
Participation in the NEFEC CET training requires pre-approval by the educator’s principal. Link to pdf document: https://tinyurl.com/CET2018
CET is a 20-hour training using a blended learning model of online and face-to-face sessions.
Session 1) 8-hour CET Moodle course (2 weeks to complete): increase knowledge through content reading, articles, discussion posts, and video scenarios for application practice.
Session 2) 6-hour face-to-face session (1 day): apply mentoring skills during collaborative activities.
Session 3) 6-hour implementation (6 weeks to complete) follow-up: complete the full Mentor Cycle (pre-conference, observation, data analysis, and post-observation) with an intern, beginning teacher, or teacher/educator assigned by the principal.
Participation in all three sessions is required to receive certification.
The online module will begin Monday, September 3rd at 7:00 am and close Monday, September 17th at 10:00 pm.
The face-to-face meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 19th from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Educators will develop the following skills:
Skill One: develop a growth mindset and apply it to their work with developing educators.
Skill Two: conduct effective content planning conferences with developing educators.
Skill Three: become expert observers and diagnosticians of teaching and learning.
Skill Four: provide targeted feedback to developing educators about their teaching practices.
PLEASE NOTE:
Participation in all three components of the Clinical Educator Training is required to receive certification: online Moodle course, face-to-face session, and follow-up implementation .
Travel and substitutes will not be reimbursed by NEFEC.
