Teacher Cadet Program

The Teacher Cadet program is considered an introduction or orientation to the teaching profession. Its main purpose is to encourage students to consider teaching as a career. Teacher Cadets are exposed to teaching careers and the education system through a variety of teaching methods. Students attend a daily, one-period class for two semesters or its equivalent, observe and participate in public school classrooms at the kindergarten through secondary levels, learn about various personnel in the education setting and their responsibilities, and discuss both negative and positive aspects of teaching as a career.

Eligible teacher cadet students may also participate in dual enrollment with higher education partners. These partners support the program on several different fronts including faculty involvement with participating teacher cadets, a support cadre for cadets enrolling following high school graduation and through internships in participating schools.
