The standard tray can use the following paper sizes:

Letter, 8 1/2" x 11"

Legal, 8 1/2" x 14"

A4, 210mm x 297mm

B5, 182mm x 257mm

Envelope can also be accommodated with the multi-purpose trays, the minimum sizes the QMS PS-410 supports is 3 1/2" x 7" (86mm x 178mm). The maximum size is 7 2/5" x 10 1/2" (188mm x 267mm).

Optional Trays: Letter (250 sheets)

Legal (250 sheets)

Note: optional trays can be attached to the bottom of the unit. Use

Note: Actual imageable area may vary depending on the application program and/or printer driver.

Note: printing from the Macintosh requires Larger Print Area (Fewer Downloadable Fonts) to be checked in Page Setup (Options) The IBM PC (or compatible) takes advantage of the larger imageable area automatically.

Manual Feeding

Manual feed is the "by hand" method of feeding paper. It is very useful for:

Overlay printing

Double-sided printing

Heavy-weight papers and envelopes

Manual feed makes it possible to feed individual sheets of paper of other material (envelopes and transparency stock) into your printer. Paper weight can range from 16 pound to 35 pound.

Manually Feeding Paper To feed paper by hand from the standard tray:

1. Set the paper guides on the standard tray to the size of the paper you are using.

2. Feed the sheet of paper between the paper guides face up, top edge first.

To feed paper by hand if you have an optional lower tray:

1. Go into either your software application program and select manual feed (this is sometimes called feeder bin), or into the QMS PS Executive Series Utility program and select manual feed.

If you want to manually feed multiple pages, set your printer for manual feed through the print utility program or through PostScript command.

QMS PS-410 Messages

Power (green) always displays when the printer power switch is in the "1" position and the printer is plugged into a power source.

Ready (green) displays when the printer has warmed up or cleared errors, such as a paper jam, and is ready to receive a print job.

Active (green) lights when the printer is processing a job. The light goes off when the printer has completely processed a job.

Receiving (green) When the printer is receiving data.

Online/Offline (green) When the printer is online, this indicator glows green. However, when the online/offline button is pushed, the indicator goes out to indicate that the printer is offline. The light also goes out when a printer error occurs.

Printer Error (amber) indicates and error that requires a power-off cycle or service intervention.

Paper Jam (amber) lights to indicate that you must remove a paper jam from the printer. After clearing the jam and closing the paper path door, the paper jam indicator goes out.

Paper Out (amber) lights when the selected paper tray is out of paper. It lights in conjunction with the indicator for the tray you selected: either the standard tray indicator or the optional tray indicator.

Standard Tray (green) lights when the standard paper tray is being used. This is the factory default paper tray and is always on unless you change to the optional tray. The light blinks when the printer is put in manual feed mode.

Optional Tray (green) only lights when you select the optional paper tray for use and paper is being drawn from that tray.

Active Light

After warming up, if the Active indicator stays on, two problems may exist. If you are downloading additional typefaces, too many can overload the printer's memory causing the printer to reset. If this is not your case, you may have a laser or engine failure, and you should place a service call to your QMS dealer.

Power Light

If the Power indicator is on, but no startup page prints, turn off the printer and check the following:

1. From a cold start, it takes a minute for the printer to warm up. Be sure you have waited long enough for a start up page before suspecting a problem.

2. Check to be sure the paper tray(s) is in place and not ajar.

3. Open the top section of the printer and check for a paper jam.

4. Make sure a toner cartridge is installed.

5. Check to see if you have disabled the start up page with the PS Executive Series Utility program. Go into the program and enable the start up page or try sending a file you know prints.

6. If none of the above problems are found, call your QMS dealer.

Printer Error

If the Printer Error light comes on:

1. Power the printer off and back on.

2. If upon powering up, the printer error light is still on: Make sure a toner cartridge is installed in the printer.

Push both the Test/Cancel button and the Online/Offline button simultaneously. {bmc look.bmp}mq410_pnl2

Note: Depressing both the Test/Cancel button and the Online/Offline button restores the printer to its factory defaults.

3. Contact your QMS dealer.
