Designed to increase awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultures by highlighting similarities and differences as they relate to language and communication. Participants will learn how to adapt classroom instructional practices to meet the needs of students with varying cultural backgrounds.

This 60-hour, 8 week online course partially fulfills the Florida DOE's ESOL training requirements for Category I teachers that need 300 hours of ESOL and is one of the five courses required for ESOL Endorsement under NEFEC's Plan 1.

Online ESOL Endorsement courses are 8 weeks long. Participants will spend approximately 6-8 hours per week to complete a module with two or more lessons. The courses are completely online and require no face-to-face meetings or specific dates/times required to be online.

An email will be sent to each participant with login information and directions for accessing the course through Moodle, NEFEC's course management system, by 4:30 PM on the start date of the course. Sometimes legitimate email messages are filtered by Spam filters within and email program. If you have not received login information by the close of business on the Friday before the course start date, please check first to see if the message is in a junk or spam mail folder within your email program. If you do not find it, contact elearning@nefec.org to verify your email and to have the information resent.

For information on the ESOL Endorsement courses offered by NEFEC, please visit http://www2.nefec.org/elearning/esolendorsement/.

NEFEC's courses are for inservice points and are not college level courses. The Florida Department of Education will not accept NEFEC's courses if they are submitted by an individual for recertification or endorsement. They must be submitted through a district as part of their approved Master Inservice Plan.

Participants are responsible for following their district’s requirements to obtain inservice credit and endorsement. If you are unsure if your district will accept courses offered through NEFEC, you will need to check with your district Staffing Development office.

*NOTE: NEFEC Member districts include: Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Flagler, FSDB, FSU Lab School, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Monroe, Nassau, PK Yonge, Putnam, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union.
