Through this online practicum, participants will demonstrate research-based instructed strategies for all of the components of reading, as well as administration of related assessments and data analysis. Participants will also demonstrate skill in student engagement and differentiation for learners from diverse backgrounds. Participants will be required to submit a minimum of three (3) video-recorded lessons in a digital format in order to meet the demonstration of this Competency. Upon completion of this practicum, participants will have fulfilled Competency 5 of the Florida Reading Endorsement.

Participants must successfully complete competencies 1-4 to register for this course.

This is a self-paced, facilitated course. The course is completely online and requires no face-to-face meetings or specific dates/times required to be online. This course (Summer 2021 Cohort) begins May 3, 2021 and will end on November 30, 2021. Registration will open on May 1, 2021 and we will begin enrolling participants on May 3, 2021.

The average time to complete a 60 hour course is 10-12 weeks but the course is self-paced so you can choose to finish quicker than the 10-12 weeks or can choose to take a little longer if needed as long as the coursework is finished by the course ending date.

Participants are responsible for following their district’s requirements to obtain inservice credit and endorsement. If you are unsure if your district will accept courses offered through NEFEC, you will need to check with your district Staffing Development office.

FDOE Note Regarding Endorsements: Per section 1012.575, F.S., school districts, charter school consortiums, and private school organizations with state-approved professional learning systems have statutory authority to provide state-approved add-on endorsement programs to educators. Private school teachers may take the "endorsement" courses offered by NEFEC, however these courses cannot be used to add the endorsement to a certificate; additionally, educators will only receive inservice points if the courses are part of the private school organization’s professional learning catalogue. In order to receive credit for endorsement purposes, private school teachers must either complete a private school organization’s state-approved endorsement program OR receive the appropriate credit from a college or university. Regardless of which path an educator chooses to take, it is recommended that they apply for the endorsement BEFORE taking any courses. Questions regarding endorsements for private school teachers may be directed to Kristen Gilley at Kristen.Gilley@fldoe.org.
