Internal Fonts
The Laserwriter 8500 ships with the standard 136 PS3 fonts, including 19 TrueType fonts
and 117 Postscript fonts. Of these, 38 PostScript
fonts and 17 TrueType fonts have the Central European (CE) character set. Windows
users need to install Adobe Type Manager that comes with the 8500 in order to get the 117
Postscript fonts.
By placing more fonts in the printing system, font downloading from common office
applications is virtually eliminated, which improves speed and increases the font fidelity
of electronically distributed documents. In addition, the file size across the network is
smaller, which improves transfer speed and decreases network traffic.

Font Test
To generate a Test Page or a list of fonts in any PostScript printer, run the Apple Printer Utility that comes with the system software.
Unprintable Region
The Apple 8500 supports full bleed. Full-bleed is the ability to print the full page edge-to-edge. For example with the Laserwriter 8500, a full-bleed letter size (8.5"x11") page can be printed on ledger size(11"x17") paper with crop marks. Or a full-bleed ledger size page can be printed on 13"x18"(or larger) paper with crop marks.
The default unprintable region in the Windows driver is set to

Loading Paper
Paper can be loaded in the paper cassette or the multipurpose tray, or both.
The multipurpose tray can hold up to 150 sheets of paper of various sizes, as well as envelopes, transparencies, and sheets of labels. The exact number of sheets the multipurpose tray can hold depends on the weight of the papers. The tray can be used for manual feed jobs.
Manual Feeding
1. Extend the output tray and adjust the print head
paper selector lever.
Move the paper selector lever to the envelope icon for envelopes and to the paper icon
for everything else.
2. Load the paper and adjust the external paper selector lever. The cassette can accept papers in the long-edge feed (LEF) and short-edge feed (SEF) orientation. Use LEF whenever possible. LEF orientation typically results in reduced printing time.
Continuous Feeding
The paper cassette can hold up to 500 sheets of paper, US letter size, US legal size, executive, A4 or B5.
