The Guidance and Counseling of Gifted Students module provides an overview of the theory, research, practical strategies, and resources on guidance and counseling, with an emphasis on classroom application in the gifted classroom. This online course is one of the five courses required for Gifted Endorsement.
There is no required textbook for this course.
Participants will spend approximately 6-8 hours per week to complete the course in the 8 week timeline. The course is completely online and requires no face-to-face meetings or specific dates/times required to be online.
An email will be sent to each participant with login information and directions for accessing the course through Moodle, NEFEC's course management system, by 4:30 PM on the start date of the course. Sometimes legitimate email messages are filtered by Spam filters within an email program. If you have not received login information by 4:30 PM on the course start date, please check first to see if the message is in a junk or spam mail folder within your email program. If you do not find it, contact elearning@nefec.org to verify your email and to have the information resent.
NEFEC's courses are for inservice points and are not college level courses. The Florida Department of Education will not accept NEFEC's courses if they are submitted by an individual for recertification or endorsement. They must be submitted through a district as part of its approved Professional Learning Catalogue. Participants are responsible for following their district’s requirements to obtain inservice credit and endorsement. If you are unsure if your district will accept courses offered through NEFEC, you will need to check with your district Staffing Development office.
FDOE Note Regarding Endorsements: Per section 1012.575, F.S., school districts, charter school consortiums, and private school organizations with state-approved professional learning systems have statutory authority to provide state-approved add-on endorsement programs to educators. Private school teachers may take the "endorsement" courses offered by NEFEC, however these courses cannot be used to add the endorsement to a certificate; additionally, educators will only receive inservice points if the courses are part of the private school organization's professional learning catalogue. In order to receive credit for endorsement purposes, private school teachers must either complete a private school organization's state-approved endorsement program OR receive the appropriate credit from a college or university. Regardless of which path an educator chooses to take, it is recommended that they apply for the endorsement BEFORE taking any courses. Questions regarding endorsements for private school teachers may be directed to LaRhonda Johnson at LaRhonda.Johnson1@fldoe.org.

*NOTE: NEFEC Member districts include: Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Flagler, FSDB, FSU Lab School, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Monroe, Nassau, PK Yonge, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union.
