Robert Marzano, an internationally known scholar, trainer and speaker, develops educational programs and practices for K-12 classrooms with practical translations of the most current research and theory into classroom strategies that produce concrete gains in student learning.
In The Art and Science of Teaching, Marzano presents an instructional framework in the form of ten questions that represent a logical planning sequence for successful instructional design. Each question is presented in the form of “What will I do to…” As a guide to answering the ten questions, each chapter opens with a very real classroom scenario. This is followed by a touch of digestible research and theory. The chapter concludes with doable A, B, C action steps for taking what has been presented and making it real in the classroom.
The chapters in this book can be thought of as organized around 5 major themes:
--Chapters 1-3 Getting Down to Basics…Instruction and Content
--Chapters 4-5 Beyond the Basics…Reaching for Higher Level Learning
--Chapters 6-7 Maintaining Effective Classroom Management Practices
--Chapters 8-9 Building Relationships with Students
--Chapter 10 Putting It All Together
• Registration is limited to 20 participants.
• Participants will receive the Marzano book to keep (contingent on successful completion of the book study components).
• 30 in-service points will be awarded for completion of the book study.
• Assignments will be submitted via email and a wiki (Wikispaces).
• A required orientation session will be held via Adobe Connect on June 19th from 4-6 PM. Participants must attend one of these sessions where they will receive information about the book study format and hands-on experience using the Wiki.
