Continuous Feeding

Standard Feeders: One Paper Tray

  1. Slide the paper width and length adjusters to their outermost positions.
  2. Push in about a 3/4-inch stack of paper along the right side of the IN tray, print side down, until it stops.
  3. Readjust the paper width and length adjusters to fit snugly against the paper's edges.
  4. Within your software, adjust the print settings to match the paper type, size and orientation.

Using the Single Sheet Feeder

  1. Slide the single sheet feeder tp the right or left to accommodate the width of the media you are inserting.
  2. Insert the single sheet of media evenly into the slot of the feeder, print side down, until it stops.
  3. Adjust the feeder, if necessary, to make sure the right edge of the media is aligned with the right side of the IN tray.
  4. Within your software, adjust the print settings to match the paper type, size and orientation.

Using the Single Sheet Feeder to Print an Envelope

  1. Slide the single sheet feeder to the right of left to accommodate the width of the envelope you are inserting.
  2. Insert the envelope into the slot of the single sheet feeder, with the flap facing up and to the right, until it stops.
  3. Adjust the single sheet feeder, if necessary to make sure the right edge of the envelope is aligned with the right side of the IN tray.
  4. Within your software, adjust the print settings to match the envelope type and size.

Using the IN Tray to Print a Stack of Envelopes

  1. Slide the paper width and length adjusters to their outermost positions.
  2. Push in about 15 envelopes along the right side of the IN tray, with their flaps facing up and to the right, until they stop.
  3. Readjust the paper width and length adjusters to fit snugly against the envelope edges.
  4. Within your software, adjust the print settings to match the envelope type and size.

Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 870 Series Messages

Printer Lights Meaning
All lights off The printer if off. Press the power button to turn on the printer.
Power light on The printer is ready to print. You can send a document to the printer.
Power light blinking The printer is receiving data from the computer or is printing. Wait for the document to print.
Paper light blinking There is a printer error. Check for paper jams and cartridge problem. Press the resume button to continue.
Both lights blinking alternately Turn the printer off. Clear any paper jams and make sure that the cartridge carriage is not blocked. Turn the printer back on.
Both lights on Printer Error.
Both lights blinking together The printer is in a power down state. (No problem)
Power light on, paper light blinking and printer will not turn off Replace a missing print cartridge or leave both cartridge cradles empty. Both print cartridges must either be in or out of the printer for it to power down.
